SCWAVE

SC WAVE
I started a satellite premier soccer club affiliated with SC Waukesha in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, in 2018 and acted as the Site Director (and Keeper Coach) through 2020.  After coaching both youth recreational and select level soccer in the area for many years, I realized our club, and in my opinion, all of the clubs in the Lake Geneva area, were

doing our kids a great disservice. Instead of aggregating our pool of players, each of the six small and siloed clubs in Walworth County created teams from the players only in their hyper local area.  And while each club had some very talented players, their opportunities were lessened because they did not receive the best possible coaching and there was no development or playing roadmap.  I thought we could do better.

SCW Walworth emphasized player and team development over winning and work to foster a lifelong love of the game in our players, club families, and community.  And we processed all decisions through a single filter: what was best for the player as a person.

By reaching out to all communities, we not only increased participation but also fostered a more diverse and inclusive environment. The affiliation with SC Waukesha provided access to a larger network of resources and created playing opportunities through club passes and league qualifications that the area teams could never have experienced. This benefited not only the players by giving them more chances to play and develop, it enhanced the area's overall credibility and exposure.

The parent organization changed its name from SC Waukesha to SC Wave and the SC Wave Walworth satellite club is thriving, with several teams winning state level tournaments and a number of players moving onto national level and collegiate teams.

COACHING
Coached girls and boys recreational, then select, soccer from 2010 through 2020.  I started because my local club needed volunteers and my son and daughter enjoyed playing.  Ended up coaching fr 10 years. Received my D license from the Colorado Soccer Association in 2013 and Goalkeeping certification from the United Soccer Coaches in 2016.

Outside of the club politics, I absolutely loved coaching. I was very fortunate to have great parents who were supportive of me and their kids, an incredible group of volunteers who helped coach, referee, maintain fields, drive kids to games, etc., and just an amazing group of kids. So proud of those kids and just a great experience.

I still have the information I used when we transferred to the
4-2-3-1 formation for our U17 Girls teams as we prepared for the State President's Cup. Pretty certain I am the only person who was excited about the online tools (or formation)!

FOOD SECURITY

FOOD SECURITY
Hunger is a very real and serious issue in Walworth County, Wisconsin. The median income hovered around $35,000 to $38,000 (Source: United States Census Bureau) and one third of the area

residents face hunger and lack consistent access to food.

I originally become involved with the Walworth Food Bank through Sal Dimeceli and his Time Is Now charity in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.  Sidenote: Sal is an absolutely remarkable person.  Through his charity, he has helped many, many, many organizations and people in the area. I like to consider myself a fairly giving person, but I am humbled and do nothing compared to Sal.

Over the years I would help collect, bag, and distribute food.  I also raised money for the food bank through different activities, my favorite being a World Cup Soccer Watch Party at a local movie theater where we raised over $1,000 and several hundreds pounds of food and diapers.
